Therapy Should Be Accessible, Private, and Yours

Mental health care shouldn’t be dictated by profit-first corporations with little understanding of actual mental healthcare, or the bureaucratic hoops of insurance companies who are also driven arguably exclusively by money. Therapy, more than anything else, should be personal, meaningful, and rooted in real human connection. That’s why I choose not to work with insurance or venture-capital backed tech companies (some have insurance companies as an investor!) making their way into the mental health space. As well, insurance requires a mental health diagnosis for reimbursement, sets limits on care, and in some cases, even requests access to treatment notes. These policies don’t exist to support healing—they exist to control costs.

I believe in therapy that is private, flexible, and shaped by your needs—not by a system that prioritizes numbers over people.

Sliding Scale and Accessibility

Standard rates:

  • Individual therapy (50 minutes): $200

  • Couples therapy (75 minutes): $250

That said, money shouldn’t be the thing that keeps you from getting support. I offer a flexible sliding scale based on financial need because I know that therapy is an investment, and not everyone has the same resources. If my standard rates aren’t accessible for you, reach out. We’ll figure something out.

I also hold a limited number of reduced-fee slots through Open Path Collective, a nonprofit committed to affordable therapy. I’ve been part of Open Path since its early days because I believe deeply in expanding access to care. To see if I have current openings for new clients through Open Path, click here.

The Problem with Insurance in Mental Health

For many people, using insurance for therapy seems like the obvious choice—it’s what we’re told to do with healthcare. But what’s less obvious is the tradeoff. Insurance companies require a diagnosis to justify coverage, meaning your mental health condition becomes part of a permanent medical record. Some clients don’t mind this, but for others—especially those with concerns about privacy, security clearances, or future insurance eligibility—it’s a significant issue.

If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide a superbill so you can seek reimbursement. But it’s important to know that insurance will still require a diagnosis, and that information will be logged in their system. However, we will still be setting our own parameters for your treatment, and they will have much less ability to know what is happening during your therapy.

A More Equitable Model for Therapy

I run my practice in a way that allows me to provide high-quality care while keeping my rates fair. I don’t answer to investors or insurance companies. I answer to my clients. Mental health should never be a luxury, and I do what I can to make therapy available to people who need it.

If you’re wondering whether therapy with me is financially possible, let’s talk. There’s almost always a way to make it work.

Cancellation Policy

If you are unable to attend a session, it is required you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand. Otherwise, I do have to charge the full rate of the session.

Other Questions? Don’t hesitate to reach out and schedule a complimentary 30 minute consultation session. I do my best to answer whatever’s on your mind, and it will give you a sense of how we would tackle the work.
