FOCUSING-ORIENTED PSYCHOTHERAPY

CALIFORNIA | NEW YORK

Meeting you where you are, to get you where you want to be.

Any of these sound like things you would say?

  • I don’t feel secure with the path I’m on in my life
  • The relationships in my life aren’t fulfilling or meeting my needs
  • If I put my needs first, it will burden the people I love the most
  • Things feel unknown and confusing right now, or just generally “uneasy”
  • I know I want to solve my problems… but it feels daunting to take things on alone right now

You aren’t alone. When we have these experiences, one of the things we can do is work with a qualified therapist in order to make sense of them on a deeper emotional level, which can lead to meaningful and more fulfilling steps forward. I’m here in a non-judgmental, supportive but direct way, starting with where you are right now, and working together to help get you where you want to be.

Meet Your Therapist

Hi, I’m David 👋🏼

I am a humanistic, focusing-oriented therapist. And, more importantly, I am here to help you, in an open and curious way, better understand you and your “felt sense.” The felt sense is the experience that is at your root from where everything we see on the surface -- thinking and talking about in words -- is derived. I have found that deeper awareness and clarity provides for an overall greater sense of security with yourself and your surroundings, and from there healthier personal choices can be discovered. I orient understanding of struggles around Attachment Theory, and that our relationships early on, as well as throughout the life cycle, are our most formative experiences.

I provide online psychotherapy for adult individuals who reside in the states of California and New York. While I have been providing online therapy on a part-time basis since 2017, the COVID-19 pandemic made in-person therapy impossible, and gave me an opportunity to live elsewhere while still maintaining relationships with clients I had been working with. When I arrived in California, it soon became clear I wanted to stay longer than just the winter season, and obtained licensure. I continue to work 100% virtually; Like everything in 2020, 2021, and beyond, this move was not straightforward – and it’s been all about figuring out what’s right for me as a therapist and human being.

My clients know well this journey of finding what makes sense. During our sessions, we will often be understanding how we can have our needs met within different relationships or finding security when things feel shaky. Focusing-oriented therapy is considered a “somatic based” therapy, so when something is felt in the body, I will want to use that as a vehicle for understanding and change.

My clients are ready to do the work – the deep processing and insightful reflection – to make significant progress in their own relationships, identity formation, and sense of self. Throughout my career it has my deepest honor to walk beside my clients and help them along their way from wherever they are, and I’d love the privilege to get to know you, too.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach to therapy centers you, the client, and focuses on helping you build a stronger sense of self and develop a healthy understanding of your feelings. I believe no two people are the same, so I tailor our sessions together to address your unique challenges and seek to help you understand the root cause of your struggles. There’s no “one size fits all” when it comes to working with me.
